Family Illustration - Cover for 1 year history activities

This activity aims to:

  • Recognize the formation of its history from its birth to the present day.
  • Complete tables and the family tree with data about your family members.
  • Identify your family history through an interview with older people.

To carry out this activity we will need the following materials:

  • Recording of family and family tree information.
  • Photos of family members.
  • Cardboard, drawing sheets and pens (production of posters).

Step by step History Activities for 1 Year:

  • Do a search for the names of your family members: maternal and paternal grandparents, uncles, cousins, siblings. If possible, bring photos of family members.
  • Interview an older person in the family for information or fun facts about your family.
  • Divide the class into groups to survey your family members. Debrief by reporting on the students' interview. Then ask the students to draw, on a sheet of paper, what most caught their attention from the interviews carried out.
  • Distribute a card with a drawing of a very large tree to each student.
  • Separate the photos of maternal and paternal grandparents and paste them at the top of the tree.
  • Below each couple, glue the children (student's parents and uncles) and then the grandchildren (student and cousins). Finally, name each family member.
  • Make an exhibition of the work done by the groups.

Profession Activities for Early Childhood Education
Profession Activities for Early Childhood Education

Let's work the professions in the discipline: History.

This activity about the professions of history is suitable for students in the 1st year of elementary school, and aims to:

  • Know the different professions through research.
  • Recognize the importance of professions and their role in society, through dolls made from newspaper, using the papering technique.
  • Provide theatrical experiences that contribute to the child's integrated growth, developing their expressive capacity (attention, observation, concentration), artistic and, in the group, respect, cooperation, dialogue, practicing freedom and solidarity.

Below is a list of the materials needed to carry out this activity about professions of history 1 year.

  • Glue, sulfite, colored pencils, pens, large amounts of newspaper, masking tape, gouache, wide and thin brushes, fabric scraps, buttons, toothpicks, wool, scraps in general.
  • Glue suggestions: white glue (Tenaz type), diluted with a little water or homemade glue with flour and water: put in 1.5 liter of boiling water and ½ cup of wheat flour, stir until the consistency of porridge and let it cool to use.
  • Materials needed for the doll (clothes, button, toothpick, wool etc.).

Step by step Activities:

  • Start the survey based on a recognition of the professionals who work at the school.
  • Interview, photograph, draw these professionals and research each profession.
  • Each student must register (draw) a chosen professional, with their characteristics.
  • Brainstorm with the class about the research. Form groups of up to five students and propose that they choose one of the professionals surveyed by the group members, just one to be represented by making a puppet.
  • Together with the students, lift the parts that make up the body (head, trunk, upper limbs and lower) and the details that they quote: ear, fingers, eyebrows, nails, hair, etc.
  • From there, the students will crumple sheets of newspaper and give shapes to each part of the body.
  • These parts are joined with masking tape, assembling the entire doll.
  • The papering begins with strips of newspaper cut (previously), of the same size, being dipped in a container with glue. Then, pass the strips of newspaper on both sides, in the glue, remove the excess and wrap in each part of the doll. At least three layers are required with the strips of newspaper and glue. When they are very wet, put a layer of glue-free newspaper.
  • After they are well dry, proceed with finishing the dolls, gluing the loose ends and adding parts that were not in the paper, such as eyes, nails, hair, etc.
  • Write down on paper the materials that will be needed for all the details (clothes, button, toothpick, wool, etc.), and provide them for the next meeting.
  • Paint the body of the dolls with gouache, using wide and thin brushes, for details. Some choose to paint their eyes and details with paint instead of gluing accessories.
  • The garment can be made with the newspaper itself or with scraps of fabric and old clothes.
  • Add the accessories and put together a play about the professions chosen for the groups to present the dolls.

Tips for the teacher to carry out this activity:

  • The making of the dolls can take place in two or three meetings so that there is time to dry.
