Does it turn cement in the belly? Clog the intestine? How many stories do you know about what happens if we swallow gum?
In fact, gum is composed of different chemical substances, but mainly sugar, dyes and basic gum. Sugar and colorings are normally assimilated in the digestive process. The basic gum is made with synthetic rubber and paraffin, both derived from petroleum. When swallowed, the gum is neither absorbed nor digested and is eliminated through the faeces.
However, chewing gum on an empty stomach can be bad for the stomach. This is because chewing stimulates the production of enzymes and increases acidity, without there being food to be digested, which can damage the organ's walls.
