Few people have heard of light pollution, but such a thing exists and is a nightmare in an astronomer's life, as it steals the beauty of the starry sky. It wasn't the stars that lost their freshness, it was humanity that intensely illuminated the Earth and dazzled the night. Light pollution is caused by excessive urban lighting. (…) To draw attention to the problem, astronomers from different countries started to organize something like the World Day of the Dark Sky. The idea is for the city lights to be turned off for a while. This was on April 18, 2005, when the 50th anniversary of Albert Einstein's death would be remembered.
