Paper Recycling

It is 5 year science activity, aims to demonstrate to students the possibility of recycling and the importance of recycling materials.

To start the activity in the classroom we will need:

Newspaper sheets
Bucket
cornstarch
Sieve
baking dish or bowl
Blender (optional)

Activity step by step

Divide the class into groups. Each group must have the material indicated for use and proceed as follows:

a) in a bucket, place two sheets of shredded newspaper and half a liter of water;
b) let the mixture rest for one day;
c) add four spoons of cornstarch and mix well or blend in a blender;

d) transfer this mixture to a baking dish or bowl;
e) dip the sieve into the mixture, removing it immediately afterwards and exposing it to the sun to dry (in the absence of sieve, you can dip your own hands in the mixture, removing them and kneading with both hands to Mix. Also let it dry in the sun);
f) once dry, you will get a sheet of paper.

What can we discuss?

Discuss with students that paper bags, cardboard boxes, newspapers are obtained by recycling paper. What contributes to reduce the felling of many trees on our planet. Also comment on the importance of recycling not only paper, but other materials such as glass, plastics, aluminum, etc. and about the economy this represents for the world and the benefits for the environment.

Step by step activity:

Divide the class into pairs.
In each pair, one student will describe their room as if they were sitting on the bed they were sleeping on.
The other colleague should, as the information is being passed, draw a picture of the room.
Now, whoever described will do the drawing, and whoever drew will describe his room.
Swap the designs.
To finish the job, each person must describe the room again using another piece of furniture as a point of reference, that is, they must say what they see when looking at the room from another place.
