5G technology is complex and challenging. For the director of Inatel, Carlos Nazareth Motta Marins, it is seen as disruptive, as it presents different scenarios from those offered by current technology. “The first purpose of telephony was to communicate with mobility. Time passed and we had several changes, but always focused on functionality and increasing data communication. 5G is different, as it allows you to go further”, he says.
The new technology will make it possible to meet three different scenarios. According to the director, the first is the large increase in the data rate, which could be up to a hundred times greater than in the 4G system. The other possibility refers to the low latency time of the network. In other words: the information takes much less to get from one point to another. "This feature allows the implementation of innovative actions, such as the tactile internet, with such a delay time that it would be possible to perform a remote surgery, due to the practically instantaneous connection", exemplifies.
Finally, the last scenario concerns the number of users. It will be possible to have many more users connected to the network – and not always humans. “Currently, the devices are connected to, at most, one or two connected devices. It is expected that, after the change, each user will have a smartphone and ten other devices connected to their mobile communication system”, he explains.
However, despite the great technological innovations, it is necessary to remember that there are reservations regarding its use, and that the benefits are a consensus in the academic community.
