the automobile myth

The automobile is the ultimate symbol of modern societies. The demand for automobiles has grown so rapidly that in just a few decades it has turned the automobile industry into one of the engines of the market economy. But, this is because cars satisfy countless needs, desires and fantasies of men and women today – in particular the dream of freedom of movement. What will be the future of this fruit of the marriage of the dream with technique? Are we not perhaps in danger of seeing our freedom to own a car turn into slavery to that same car?
