“It's a very forgotten thing,” said the fox. – It means “to create bonds”…
– Create bonds?
“Exactly,” said the fox. – You are not yet to me but a boy entirely equal to a hundred thousand other boys. And I have no need of you. And you don't need me either.
In your eyes I am nothing but a fox equal to a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you captivate me, we will need each other. You will be for me the only one in the world. And I will be for you the only one in the world.
“I'm beginning to understand,” said the little prince. – There is a flower… I believe it captivated me.
“It's possible,” said the fox. – You see so much on Earth…

The fox looked puzzled:
– On another planet?

Yours will call me out of the woodwork, as if it were music. And then look! Do you see, far away, the wheat fields? I don't eat bread. Wheat to me is useless. Wheat fields don't remind me of anything. And that's sad! But you have gold color hair. Then it will be wonderful when you have tamed me. The wheat, which is golden, will remind me of you. And I will love the noise of the wind in the wheat...
The fox was silent and considered the prince for a long time:
– Please… captivate me! - she said.
“I wish,” said the little prince, “but I don't have much time. I have friends to discover and many things to know.
- We only know the things that captivated - said the fox. – Men no longer have time to know anything. They buy everything ready-made in stores. But since there are no friend shops, men no longer have friends. If you want a friend, captivate me!
– What do I need to do? asked the little prince.

The next day the little prince returned.

– What is a rite? asked the little prince.
“It's a very forgotten thing too,” said the fox. – It's what makes a day different from other days; one hour, the other hours. My hunters, for example, have a rite. They dance on Thursdays with the village girls. Thursday is the wonderful day! I will walk to the vineyard. If the hunters danced any day, the days would all be the same, and I wouldn't have a vacation!
