It is the largest cat in the Americas and inhabits forests, savannas, scrub and marshland. Originally it also occupied the South of the United States, but now it is restricted to Latin America. But, there are reports of sightings of these beautiful animals in the American state of Arizona, in a region close to the border with Mexico.
They have a twilight and nocturnal habit, solitary and territorial. They are great swimmers, able to cross large expanses of water and climb trees without problems. The fur has rosette designs, which form circles of black spots and in the center with a lighter color, camouflaging itself in the environment. They can live up to 12 years in the wild, but reach 20 in captivity.
