Pay attention to the meaning and correct writing of each one in the following explanations to avoid making mistakes again:
The word written with C refers to musical performances, but its origin is a little more complex. It would actually be music composed for solo instruments accompanied by an orchestra or piano. Over time, the word ended up being associated with any type of show that involves music. Nowadays it is used more often for classical music presentations, for example.
Its spelling is also justified by its origin. The term comes from the Latin, in the union between the words “concertatum” (to fight) and “consertum” (atar). It represents, then, the “clash” between instruments.
In addition to the musical sense, the Latin origin of the two words that form it brings other uses to the term. It can be used in the sense of harmonizing, matching, “orchestrating” something. It is used as a noun or the 1st person present tense of the verb “to concert”.

The word written with an S is not wrong, quite the opposite. Despite the same pronunciation, it has a very different meaning. The verb “fix” refers to the act of repairing, fixing and repairing something. The word “repair” also has a Latin origin (fixu) and was adapted to Portuguese over time. Like the similar word, it is a noun or 1st person mood in the present tense of the verb “to fix”.

But then, if the words have pretty much the same pronunciation, changing only a few tenses, what explains the different meaning? In the Portuguese language there is the phenomenon of Homophony. “Repair” and “Concert” are considered homophone words. That is, both have the same phonetics, but differ in spelling and meaning.

Teaching the difference between one word and another to children who are just learning to read can be difficult. However, between the two words there are some techniques that can be used in a didactic way.
Many teachers remind students that “conCert” can be associated with drawing the C of a musical note. While “repair” is associated with a hacksaw, which is usually a tool for those who do repairs.
Another way can be to relate “conCert” with “Singing” and “repair” with something “Broken”.
