The team of paleontologists announced that the animal measured about 13 meters, twice that expected for other members of the same species.
Paleontologists at the University of Alberta in Canada have completely reconstructed a fossil of a tyrannosaurus that measured about 13 meters and weighed almost nine tons. Named Scotty, the animal lived 66 million years ago in what is now the Canadian state of Saskatchewan.
The Canadian research team announced that the discovery is the largest fossil tyrannosaurus ever found in history, and also the oldest. The animal was about 30 years old when it died, surpassing the life expectancy for its species.
Tyrannosaurus bones were found in the 1990s. However, only now have scientists been able to remove the extra material from the fossils, carry out a careful analysis of the skeleton and finally be able to assemble it completely.
Many marks and scars found in the analysis show that the animal had a violent existence. Fundamental brand for being the largest carnivorous dinosaur that ever lived.
Tyrannosaurus, which lived at the end of the Cretaceous Period, should be part of a future exhibition at the Royal Museums of Saskatchewan.
