The energy that is transferred between two bodies or parts of the same body that have different temperatures is called heat.
Heat is always transferred from the warmest to the coldest body. This heat transfer results in the process called balancethermal.
Let's say that two cubes of solid iron have a mass of 1 kg each. The temperature of one is 10ºC and the other 30ºC.
If they are placed in contact, a few minutes later, the temperatures are modified to the point where the two cubes have the same temperature of 20ºC each.
When this happens, it is the thermal equilibrium process where the two bodies have the same temperature.

O thermal balance between two bodies with different temperatures happens by the transfer of thermal energy from the warmer body to the colder one.
