Superstitions of European navigators

Until around the 15th century, the desire to explore and discover what was on the other side of the sea sparked the imagination of Europeans. Various beliefs dominated the people's imagination. For example: the existence of sea monsters, of deformed men that fed on human beings, the presence of beautiful mermaids that dragged boats and sailors to the bottom of the sea. Furthermore, it was believed that it was unlucky to leave on a Friday. It was also risky and unlucky to stare at the ocean waves at midnight
