  • Even for children who are already in school and who know their peers and educators, they are insecure.
  • During this period it is common for everyone to feel anxious for everything to go as smoothly as possible.

GOALS:

  • Enable the child to recognize the institution as an open space for their full development, complementing and expanding their knowledge already brought from home.
  • Establish a relationship of mutual trust between teachers, children and families.

  • Establish an affective bond between the teacher and the child.
  • Caring and educating with respect and affection in the child's first contacts when entering or returning to school.

THE ROLE OF THE TEACHER AND EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANT IN ADAPTATION:

"As for the teacher, he/she must be providing a pleasant and welcoming environment with playful and pleasurable activities that supply the separation process experienced by the child, and that stimulates their individuality and socialization, such as songs and dances, games and games, stories, among others, in this way the teacher will gain the child's trust and consequently facilitate the process of adaptation and socialization of the child, especially when it comes to the pre school.
In this process, the teacher appears as the main mediator in the context of adaptation to school life. Just like the children and the parents, at that time, it also goes through the adaptation process, because each year new experiences are started, new children, new parents will be known. Expectations are high: what will the new children look like? Will I be accepted by them? Will they trust me? In addition, the classroom routine and often the school itself are modified due to the peculiarities found in the adaptation process.
Anyway, the teacher is the main mediator and has to meet the expectations of the parents, gain trust of the children and their families and also to conduct this process, in addition to working on their own feelings. It is being put to the test all the time and it is always necessary to expand and train its knowledge”.

Child Adaptation Lesson Plan: Extra Tips.

1. How to plan for the adaptation period?

Before classes start, it is interesting that the school conducts an interview with the guardians to compose a form with detailed information about each child. This meeting is also an opportunity to create a bond between the institution and the family and give more security to parents.

It is worth asking about favorite games, fears, who is present in the child's daily life, how much time she usually spends with her parents, in addition to special health care and nutrition. With this information, it is easier to plan activities according to the interests and experiences of the classes.

2. How should the children be received?

The teacher must show interest in knowing how the child is doing, even if he is clinging to the lap of the mother, to create an approximation and transmit security, but without forcing a relationship that is still being created.

In order for the child to establish a first bond, the ideal is that it is always received by the same person, preferably one of the educators in the class. However, little by little, it is necessary for her to create awareness that the day care center is a collective space. Occasionally, the person responsible for the reception may be absent, so it is important to be familiar with the entire auxiliary team in order to feel safe.
