O Sítio do Pica pau Amarelo is a series of 23 volumes of fantasy, written by the Brazilian author Monteiro Lobato between 1920 and 1947. The work has crossed generations and generally represents children's literature in Brazil.
The concept was introduced from an earlier book by Lobato, A Menina do Narizinho Arrebitado (1920), the story being later republished as the first chapter of Reinações de Narizinho (1931), which is the book that propels the series by Sítio do Picapau Yellow. Previously, Lobato had already published the volumes O Saci (Paulista 1921), Fables (1922), The adventures of Hans Staden (1927) and Peter Pan (1930).
In day April 18th, annually, the National Children's Book Day. This date is also known as Monteiro Lobato's Day, considered one of the most important writers in Brazilian literature.
April 18 was chosen as the National Children's Book Day because it was the birth date of Monteiro Lobato (author of Sítio do Pica Pau Amarelo), a colossus of Brazilian children's literature. This date was made official from Law nº 10.402, of January 8, 2002.
In schools throughout Brazil, teachers, mainly from the Kindergarten and Elementary School, use this date to work in the classroom and below we have selected some tips for working at school, check it out:
