Sabará was the first settlement in Minas Gerais and is a land of calm and welcoming people. The city welcomes people who want to renew their faith in 18th century churches or to enjoy the tranquility and famous gastronomic festivals. Its sumptuous churches are richly ornamented and feature works by great Baroque and Rococo artists, such as the master Aleijadinho. Its Historic Center is an open-air museum with a very well preserved collection, which clearly demonstrates the city's transformation during the Gold Cycle. The city holds two popular gastronomic festivals annually: the Festival da Jabuticaba and the Festival do Ora-pro-nóbis. It also has a strong artisanal production, represented mainly by Palma Barroca and Renda Turca de Bicos.
