Marcus Viniciusof the Cruz de Mello Moraes was born in the city of Rio de Janeiro on October 19, 1913. He was a Brazilian diplomat, playwright, journalist, poet and composer.
In 1924, Vinicius de Moraes joined Colégio Santo Inácio, run by Jesuit priests, where he began to sing in the choir and began to assemble small plays. Three years later, he became friends with the brothers Haroldo and Paulo Tapajós, with whom he began writing his first compositions and performing at friends' parties.
In 1929, he finished high school and, in the following year, he entered the Faculty of Law of Catete, now integrated with the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). In the so-called “Faculdade do Catete”, he met and became friends with the novelist Otavio Faria, who encouraged him in his literary vocation. Vinicius de Moraes graduated in Legal and Social Sciences in 1933.
In addition to diplomacy, theater and books, his musical career began to take off in the mid-1950s – when he met Tom Jobim. In the following decade, Vinicius de Moraes lived a golden period in MPB, in which around 60 of his compositions were recorded.
Vinícius died aged 66, on July 9, 1980, at his home in Rio de Janeiro.

Vinicius de Moraes, Sérgio Endrigo, Sergio Bardotti
it was a house
Very funny
had no roof
there was nothing
Nobody could enter it, no
Because there was no floor in the house
Nobody could sleep in the hammock
Because there was no wall in the house
no one could pee
Because there was no potty there
But it was done with great care
on Bobos street

i am made of wood
wood, dead matter
But there is no thing in the world
More alive than a door.
I open it slowly
to pass the little boy
I open very carefully
to pass the boyfriend
I open very pleasantly
To pass the cook
I open it suddenly
To pass the captain.
I just don't open for these people
Which says (I care very much…)
What if a person is dumb
It's dumb as a door.
I'm very smart!
I close the front of the house
I close the front of the barracks
I close everything in this world
I only live open in the sky!
Rio de Janeiro, 1970
where are you going, little elephant
running along the way
So so heartbroken?
you're lost, pet
You stuck your foot in the thorn
How do you feel, poor thing?
— I'm scared shitless
I found a bird!
Rio de Janeiro, 1970
here comes the duck
Paw here, paw there
here comes the duck
To see what's there.
the goofy duck
painted the mug
spanked the chicken
hit the mallard
jumped off the perch
at the horse's foot
took a kick
raised a rooster
ate a piece
from genipap
got choked
with pain in the conversation
fell into the well
broke the bowl
So many did the boy
Which went to the pan.
Rio de Janeiro, 1970
white
blues
yellow
and black
play
In the light
the beautiful
Butterflies.
white butterflies
They are cheerful and frank.
blue butterflies
They are very fond of light.
the hopscotch
They are so cute!
And the black ones, so…
Oh, what darkness!
Rio de Janeiro, 1970
Time passes tick-tock tick-tock time passes
Come soon, tick-tock
Tic-tock, and go away
Hobby
very quickly
do not delay
don't delay
I'm already
Very tired
I've lost
all the joy
to do
my tick-tock
Day and night
Night and day
