onychophores

They are terrestrial invertebrates, predators that measure from three to 22 centimeters in length. They have a velvety appearance and curious habits, such as immobilizing their prey by launching a gooey jet over them.

In the caves of Bodoquena, three new species of onychophores for science were found – still unnamed! These animals are considered relics of populations that lived in the humid forests that stretched from the coast of Brazil to the interior of South America, today represented by the Atlantic Forest.
