It is the largest cat on the American continent. It is up to 1.90 meters long and 80 centimeters high (up to the shoulder). Males weigh about 20% more than females, reaching 135 kg.
The jaguar can live in various types of habitat, as long as part of the vegetation is dense. It is a solitary and territorial animal. Has nocturnal habits. It can occupy areas from 22 km2 to more than 150 km² (depending on prey availability). The species was found from the Southwest of the United States to the North of Argentina.
Lives about 12 years. It is a solitary animal and only looks for a pair in the breeding season. Females take care of the offspring and stay with them for around a year and a half, when they separate. The jaguar also uses its coat to camouflage itself and has a lot of strength when attacking.
