NAME:
It is small compared to other members of the family, and is not well known, but because it has a very long and peculiar beak, it is soon noticed that it is related to the toucans. The red-necked araçari is a colorful bird and was named this way because of the color that predominates on its neck and nape.
Despite its name referring to the neck, perhaps the beak is the most curious part of this bird. In addition to being colorful, it is very large in relation to the animal's body. But there are reasons for this exaggeration: the beak serves to frighten those who intend to attack it and, also, to attract the araçaris of the opposite sex. It is therefore your defense and your charm!
Unlike its toucan relatives, who feed on both small animals and fruits, the araçari is more vegetarian: it likes fruits a lot. […]
Like other toucans, the araçari produces a characteristic noise when flying that is generated by the external feathers of the wings. So, anyone who knows them knows they are around just by listening to them. This bird lives in large groups and sleeps together in hollow trees. […]
It is also in the holes in the trees made by other birds, such as the woodpecker, that the araçaris lay their eggs. […]
The araçari has some natural enemies, such as monkeys and hawks, but its worst threat is the destruction of the forests where it lives. These places are being replaced by cities and plantations, making life difficult for the aracari, who find no place to feed or reproduce. Therefore, for the red-necked araçari not to disappear, the solution is to preserve nature.
