Less famous relative of bem-te-vi, which from the corner you must know, the rooster also has its abilities. It juggles in the air, like a small plane. Isn't that great?!
The aerial display usually takes place when he goes out in search of food. Aim for prey – whether moths, butterflies, dragonflies, grasshoppers, flies or bees – and… Vruuum!!! Dive into the air to capture them with a sharp peck.
There are marked differences between male and female roosters. The male has a black fan-shaped tail and the body has a white V-shaped design on the back and an incomplete black pectoral band. The female is brown, with a white throat region and darker wings and tail.
During the breeding season, the male rooster's tail becomes more to the point, favoring the curious maneuvers it performs in the air to attract the female. The tail even forms a 90º angle with the body and the spectacle in the sky is beautiful to behold.
When they form a pair, the female takes on many tasks: she builds the cup-shaped nest with dry grass directly in the ground, hidden among the tall grasses. The chicks leave the nest after thirteen days of birth. They are camouflaged in the vegetation, being fed and protected by the mother, until they can actually fly.
The natural environment of the rooster, mainly the soil, where the nests are built, has been used for plantations and cattle raising. But there needs to be planning and inspection for these activities. Otherwise, with the disappearance of this habitat, the rooster runs a serious risk of extinction!
