A surf is a rise in sea level in relation to periods without a storm, and has the presence of larger waves than usual. Despite occurring on the coast, this phenomenon is associated with wind currents that occur in regions of low atmospheric pressure, which normally occur at sea. To calculate a hangover, subtract the astronomical normal tide from the storm surge tide.
