NAME:
There were various forms of resistance to slavery: suicides, murders of overseers and masters, in addition to sabotage at work, but the most common was flight.
Those who fled used to hide in the woods or on the outskirts of cities; alone or in groups, they organized themselves in order to survive. Some of them formed communities that were called quilombos. These communities were, in general, in hidden places in the middle of the forest and had protection systems against attacks. There were some quilombos close to urban centers and, in these places, the quilombolas, as the inhabitants of the quilombos were known, maintained contact and trade with the local population.
