The expeditions and riches of the new land

In the first thirty years after the arrival of the Portuguese, there was no great interest on the part of Portugal in Brazilian lands.
Only expeditions were sent to reconnoitre the land and check whether there was any wealth. They found pau-brasil, the first product extracted from the earth.
In addition to Portugal, which reserved for itself the exclusivity of exploration, other countries were also interested in commercializing the wood.


The king of Portugal then sent other expeditions to protect the coast from invaders in search of brazilwood.
