Anteaters feed only on ants or termites, which is why they are called myrmecophagi (a word of Greek origin that means ant eater). The biggest of them, the giant anteater, weighs between 35 and 40 kilos; the young and Mexican anteaters weigh around seven kilos; while the tamanduaí, the smallest of all, weighs less than half a kilo.
Although everyone has the ability to climb, the giant anteater is terrestrial. The tamanduaí is arboreal and almost never goes down to the ground. The mirim and the Mexican move well both in the trees and on the ground.
