If something in the sea goes out of normality, some beings undergo changes. Yes, the so-called watchmen or bioindicators of the quality of the marine environment are animals that present changes in their bodies when they come into contact with pollution. Studying these beings is a way for scientists to discover what is happening to where they live.
Who exactly are we talking about? From animals such as mussels, polychaetes and cockles. Why were they considered environmental watchdogs or bioindicators? Because they have four important characteristics: the first is that they are present in various parts of the world; the second, they are easily collected in their environments; the third, they are easy to maintain in research laboratories; finally, they manage to survive different types of pollutants.
