The pseudofruit is known to have colors that vary between yellow and red. It is small, with an acidic and juicy taste. It can be consumed in its natural state or in juices, drinks, sweets. However, its real fruit is the chestnut. Chestnut oil contains cardol and anacardic acid. It is used for medicinal purposes, due to its antiseptic and healing action.
The plant blooms between the months of September and October, bearing fruit in November. Some animals feed on cashew nuts, such as the field fox. In this way, the animal helps to disperse the seeds.
