The Caatinga jacaranda is a relative of the ipe trees and is also as colorful and beautiful as them. It is a tree that can reach four meters in height and usually sprout from cracks in rocks.
Rosewood flowers are lilac. The Caatinga bees love to visit them and, when they collect the nectar, they take the pollen grains from one flower to another. As jacarandas have many flowers that can be seen from afar, other insects, such as arapauás and very large bees called mamangavas, find these flowers first and take advantage of their nectar. Therefore, they are called “nectar thieves” and can disrupt the production of jacaranda seeds in the Caatinga.
