One day, the girl woke up and saw everything gray, black and white. She thought she was dreaming, but dreams have colors. Well, she figured it must be a nightmare, because nightmares are like that, like a stormy day full of grey, white, and black. But even nightmares had color. She looked in the mirror and saw no more color. Nothing was the same color as before and everything seemed to have lost its fun. Her mother ran to take her to the doctor. But the doctor just said to sleep and rest. It didn't do any good: the girl didn't see the colorful world again.
Only another transformation had taken place that night: she was no longer afraid. She because she had discovered that she would (and could), henceforth, color the world in her own way.
In this simple story from the book The Girl Who Lost Colors, with beautiful illustrations by Anabella López, there is a lot to think about. Don't you have days when you wake up and it seems like the world isn't fun? It looks kind of like black and white and gray. Everything seems sad, the color of tears, the color of mourning, the color of emptiness (does emptiness have a color?!). So you find that sometimes the world is just like that, a little gray. And that the only ones who can make it more cheerful and colorful are ourselves. Just take the brush of courage and paint the day gray.
