Why is ___________ bird known as joão-bobo? Biologist Guilherme Domenichelli explains that the popular name came about because of its main characteristic: when he feels threatened, he remains immobile, without moving. When captured by a predator, he plays dead to escape. The animal is surprised, thinking that the jester is dead, and suddenly it flies off and runs away. Even when a person approaches, the silly john often remains just standing there. In some regions, it is still called a bullet sharpener.
