Animals that live only in the world of permanent darkness are called troglobites. They have been isolated underground for so long that, over generations, the eyes and pigmentation become become reduced or completely absent when compared to their ancestors or relatives who inhabit the surface. That makes sense. After all, why would a pet that inhabits a place with so little food spend energy to produce pigments to protect the sun's rays or develop eyes, if it lives in complete darkness?
