It is a popular literary genre especially in the Northeast and North of Brazil that is a source of work for many Brazilian citizens.
Through the string, poets began to record stories that were only known by word of mouth. They do this through rhyming verses and usually printed on handmade brochures.
It is also common for these verses to be sung or recited. This tradition started when writers wanted to attract buyers for their books.
