One way to find out is by analyzing the rock layers in the region where the dinosaur was found. Over time, this material, made of radioactive particles and magma, cools down, becomes solid and changes. Millions or billions of years later, the particles stop emitting radiation and turn to other chemical elements. From the analysis of these elements, it is possible to know when the dinosaur existed. For example, if the fossil was between two layers of rock and it turns out that the bottom layer has 113 million years and the top one is 110 million years old, that means he lived and died in this time course. Another way, when the soil is not formed by cooled magma, is to compare the animal's bones with another similar one.
