Hamlet, by William Shakespeare, is a classic work that is permanently current because of the strength with which it deals with fundamental problems of the human condition. The obsession of revenge in which the doubt and despair concentrated in Prince Hamlet's monologues acquire an impressively tragic dimension.
In this version, Millôr Fernandes, a constant critic of the “scholars” and “eruditics” that – in the translations – end up compromising the Shakespeare's dramatic and poetic sense demonstrates how the “Bardo” can be read in Portuguese with the powerful drama of the text original. Here, Millôr rescues the pleasure of reading Shakespeare, the greatest dramatist in universal literature, in one of his most famous works.
