A beautiful girl lived with her stepmother and half-sister. But her stepmother and stepsister weren't beautiful like her, and that's why they hated the girl.
The girl also had a brother, who worked and stayed in the king's palace. He loved his sister very much. He had painted her portrait, which he kept with him in the palace. Every day, he would look at the portrait in the morning and then leave for work.
One day, the palace maid saw the portrait and told the king about it. The king was surprised to hear about the beautiful portrait and ordered the girl's brother to bring the portrait to court. When the king saw the beautiful girl in the portrait, he fell in love and wanted to marry her. The girl's brother was overjoyed and immediately set out to get his sister.
When the stepmother and half-sister heard the news about the young woman's marriage to the king, they were very angry. The stepmother wanted her daughter to marry the king, so she came up with a plan. She took some magic dust from a witch…
On the way to the palace, the stepmother threw some pixie dust in her brother's eyes. He was blind for some time. So she threw the powder on the girl and turned her into a swan. There, the stepmother dressed her daughter as a bride and went to the palace with the girl's brother.
The king received them, but was angry to see that the girl was not beautiful, as in the portrait. So he sent her brother to prison. The stepmother threw some pixie dust on the king, who began to think that his bride was actually pretty! So he agreed to marry her.
On the wedding day, the beautiful girl who had become a swan went to the palace garden and started making noise. The king's soldiers tried to scare her away, but when they couldn't, they caught the swan and took it to the king.
When the swan stood before the king, he told him that she was the beautiful bride he had chosen for himself. He told her how her stepmother had turned her into a swan. The king understood everything and asked the soldiers to arrest the stepmother and her daughter.
He released the girl's brother from prison. Afterwards, he took the magic dust that the stepmother had and turned the swan back into the beautiful young woman. Finally, the king married his beautiful bride.
