It is one of the smallest of the dolphin family and, today, one of the most studied in Brazil. It prefers the bays and mouths of large rivers to live in, which is why it is called a resident, that is, it does not migrate like whales. Because of the legend of the botos that date girls from the riverside communities, it is common for people to believe that some parts of the boto work as amulets to bring luck in love. But it is important to know that, by buying these amulets, we are, in fact, encouraging an illegal trade, which does not help the Amazon river dolphins.
