The duckling had become a vain fool who thought he was superior to others. He behaved as if he were a marquis and trusted no one. In addition, he was always very well dressed and impeccably clean.
"Come play with us at the lake, duckling!" - Said the goose, very excited.
- The lake! Who do you think I am? I'm a classy duck, don't forget! replied the pedantic duckling.
His friends, fed up with so much vanity, decided to teach him a good lesson. The swashbuckling duckling would see what was good! Taking advantage of the fact that they were all going together to the bank of a stream that passed close to the village, one of them started to run towards the others, shouting:
- Relief! Fire, fire in the woods!
Without thinking twice, the duckling jumped into the water headfirst. He nearly broke his beak in the fall. He, who was dressed up… imagine how he looked! Covered in slime and splattered, it looked like a dirty rag.
His friends laughed at his appearance. How much the duckling's pride suffered! He learned his lesson well, and from that moment on, he was back to the friendly, simple duckling that everyone had known and loved.
