Rocky shores are coastal environments that, as the name implies, are located on rocks by the sea. They exist along almost the entire Brazilian coast: from Maranhão to Rio Grande do Sul.
They are more common in regions where there are mountains close to the sea. Cliffs and boulders, which are spherical shaped rock fragments, are part of these ecosystems.
Most of the organisms found on a rocky shore are related to the sea. These beings use the shores for fixation or locomotion.
On the rocky shores numerous algae appear. Blue, green, red and brown algae characterize this environment.
