30 years ago, I was looking for an exercise to improve motor coordination and muscle strength. My kids saw an aikido performance and told me about it. The etymology of the word, of Japanese origin, has already enchanted me: there means harmony, ki is the living energy of the universe and of I mean path. Therefore, it is a martial art that seeks the way to unite with the energy of the universe. The aikido practitioner interprets attacks that come his way and defends himself using only the opponent's strength in his favor, through non-aggressive takedowns and twists. There is no winner. The goal is to learn to work the mind to make the body respond in the best way possible, with respect to itself and to the other.
