A long time ago there lived a princess, who loved to write.
Every night, she would sit by her window and write about her day.
She wrote on little pieces of paper and kept them carefully under her pillow. She wrote about her thoughts and dreams and didn't want anyone to read them.
The king and queen saw the princess writing and knew exactly what to give her for her birthday! They asked her what she wanted and, being the kind daughter that she was, she asked them to give her anything they liked. She honestly thought they'd get her a hat or maybe a set of pearl hair clips!
On the morning of her birthday, when she woke up, she was delighted to receive the gift she had longed for, but which she had never been brave enough to ask for:
– A diary with a padlock!
