NAME:

Read:

the rhizome

The rhizome is a curious stem because it does not grow upwards, but horizontally. So when we cut the grass or pull the leaves, it soon reappears and continues to grow. This type of stem has a great ability to regenerate itself and this gives these plants a great advantage in the competition for space with other vegetables. The banana tree, although large, also has a rhizome.
