Di Cavalcanti is considered one of the greatest Brazilian painters of all time. His works of vibrant colors, sinuous shapes and typically national themes are featured in museums and galleries around the world.
Emiliano Augusto Cavalcanti de Albuquerque, or Di Cavalcanti, as he signed his works, was born on September 6, 1897, in the city of Rio de Janeiro. And from an early age he revealed an extraordinary talent for the arts.
At the age of 17, shortly after his father's death, he began working as an illustration for Revista Fon-Fon, a publication specializing in caricatures and political cartoons. Two years later, like the young men of his time, _____ pursued a 'respectable' profession and entered law school.
