They fly fast and in a way that always attracts attention. For those who like to watch them, sitting on the edge of a pond or a stream and fixing your eyes on the water mirror is a great tip: you can bet the dragonflies will come!
Dragonflies come in different colors and sizes, they have the habit of skimming over water. Do they do this to cool off? Nothing! This is a custom of females, who hit the end of their body – the abdomen – in the water.
Well, dragonfly larvae are exclusively aquatic, so when the female touches the abdomen in the water, it is releasing its eggs, which after some time will hatch, releasing the larvae.
Some groups of dragonflies lay their eggs in different places, such as the Leptagrion acutum, whose larvae develop in water accumulated in Atlantic Forest bromeliads. This species has an abdomen considered to be long, approximately 4.5 centimeters.
for a long time leptagrion acutum was not found. Imagine that, for 40 years, there was no record of your observation by a researcher.
But, in 2005, it was found in the Biological Reserve of Córrego Grande, in the North of Espírito Santo, where researchers observed only two males and 16 females. This reserve is located in Conceição da Barra, the same city as the first observation.
