She lived in a beautiful forest, full of leafy trees and streams of crystal clear water, a beautiful hare called Pitanga. The animals in the forest gave her that name because her eyes were as red as pitangas and she really liked to eat these delicious berries…
She was really a cutie! She had a pink snout, tiny, cuddly ears, shiny, silky fur and a white tail, so delicate, so soft, it looked like a handful of cotton wool. Pitanga had, however, a terrible defect: she was very gossipy!
If she found a crow talking to a pigeon, she would sneak behind a tree and be so quiet listening to the conversation. Then she would spread all over the woods everything she had heard and also what she didn't have.
It happened that, after a certain time, the forest was in a great uproar, nobody understood each other anymore. There was no more harmony between the animals.
The hare died laughing at the confusion he caused among the animals. Then the king of the forest, seeing that she was the cause of so much discord, called her to her presence and rebuked her with energy.
The hare, scared to death, widened his red eyes and trembled from head to toe, promising to make amends.
When the king sent her back, he held her by the ears and slowly let go. As her ears slipped between the king's hands, they stretched.
When he saw that they were quite long, he dropped them at once. Since that day, the hare, very shy, lives his life without worrying about the lives of others and is very dear to everyone, despite the size of his ears.
