activity of text interpretation, aimed at students in the fifth year of elementary school, about dinosaurs. Despite being extinct for 65 million years, we can prove their existence by their remains preserved in rocks: fossils. Shall we know more about these beings? So, read the text carefully! Then answer the various interpretive questions proposed!

Dinosaur means terrible lizard. This word was created in the last century by the English scientist Sir Richard Owen to designate a superorder of animals, which existed on Earth millions of years ago. Despite being extinct for 65 million years, we can prove their existence by their remains preserved in rocks: fossils.
We don't know why these animals disappeared from our planet. Some scientists think a meteorite killed them all. Others say that the extinction of the dinos was caused by climate change. The mystery becomes even greater when we consider that other animals – reptiles, birds, fish and insects – survived.
There are many pieces missing in this puzzle. But, thanks to the fossils, we are sure that dinosaurs did exist, in various parts of the world, including here in Brazil. Several species have already been discovered that inhabited our country millions of years ago. There may have been many others, but only traces of these species have been found.
When they began to be studied, two of these Brazilian species were given provisional names. After being described, Rondon I and Rondon II were given the names of Maxakalisaurus topai or Dinoprata and Pycnonemosaurus nevesiou or Pycnonemosaurus, respectively.
The name Dinoprata was chosen by children who participated in a competition at the National Museum, where their skeleton was exposed. The fossils were found in the Prata region, in Minas Gerais. 80 million years ago, it maintained its approximately 13 meters long and 9 tons by eating only plants.
Picnonemosaurus ate meat. 70 million years ago, it was able to devour any animal that crossed its path, and it didn't fall prey to anyone. That is, it was at the top of the food chain. Its fossils were found more than 50 years ago, on a farm in Mato Grosso. But the species was only described in 2002.
