You don't need a dog to be moved by the book one day a dog, which has just been released by Editora 34, after being successful all over the world. The story begins with a dog being abandoned on a road. The car stops and throws the dog out. Underdog. He doesn't let himself be beaten and runs as fast as he can to catch the car, as if that would give it back to his family. But it won't. There are many people in the world who have no pity to leave a pet on the street, a friend.
The dog in this story eventually gets tired. She doesn't run anymore. But he doesn't give up. He'll use his nose to try to get home. But, distracted by the task, he crosses the street and causes a hell of a car accident. A crash, an explosion. He looks worried. But what to do? He moves on. Alone on the road once more, he despairs, howls. He walks a lot until he finds a city. And after being badly mistreated, he finds a boy. Will he be a new owner? Or has he found his old one?
I don't know, nobody knows. Belgian artist Gabrielle Vincent's book can be interpreted however you like. With few traces in graphite on white paper, Gabrielle (who is actually called Monique Martin and died in the year 2000) is more concerned with giving emotion to her drawings than interfering with her imagination. It's all beautiful: the illustration, the idea, the dog. It's up to you to follow this dog's journey. Alone in the story, alone in the pages. But along with you, the reader.
