“Bird nursery,
Beautiful to look at.
But how much sadness
In joyful singing”
“Viveiro de Pássaros” tells the story of Manduca and Pinduca, father and son who make traps to catch birds and hold them in an aviary. One day, Pinduca finds a woodpecker trapped in the trap. Angry at his imprisonment, the woodpecker leads a rebellion in the nursery!
The children's story was written by none other than Braguinha, also known as João de Barro, famous composer of carnival marches and many hits of Brazilian popular music. It is his, for example, the lyrics of the song “Carinhoso”.
Originally, “Viveiro de Pássaros” was narrated by Sônia Barreto, in a recording made in 1980. This and other children's stories were part of the nostalgic “Disquinho” collection. Some of these stories have been remastered and are now for sale on CD. […]
The book, released in 2012, was very friendly with the illustrations by Tatiana Paiva, a plastic artist who works with paper and fabric clippings, as well as drawing and painting. According to Zeca Baleiro, reading is recommended for children aged 6 and over. Light and fun, it's a good book to talk about birds & cages with the kids.
