A gigantic glowing ball of burning gas, moving slowly through a nearby galaxy it may be the largest star ever discovered by man, whose size is hundreds of times larger than the Sun. Scientists who discovered the star, called R136a1, say it had a mass 320 times that of the Sun. Astrophysicist at the University of Sheffield in northern England, Paul Crowther, explains that the R136a1 – which is twice as large as the largest discovery previously – lost mass over the time.
