Both tears and sweat are made up of water and sodium chloride. But each in different amounts. Tears have the same concentration of sodium chloride as plasma, the liquid part of blood. Sweat, on the other hand, has a much lower content of the substance, half that of tears. This is because it serves to reduce the amount of body heat. Too much sodium chloride would make it harder for the water to evaporate.
