They are the hippies of the forest, always dancing in the treetops. Egalitarian, they coexist harmoniously and treat each other with affection. When threatened, instead of fighting, they hug each other forming a large group that ends up scaring away the aggressor.
So much peace and love should at least make them live peacefully. None of that! The muriqui is one of the 35 most critically endangered species on the planet, due to habitat destruction, illegal hunting and low reproduction rate. It is found only in Brazil in some stretches of the Atlantic Forest, from southern Bahia to northern Paraná.
