Very sociable, the black anu is always seen in flocks. With an insectivorous diet (although it does not dispense with berries and even small vertebrates, such as geckos), the black anu accompanies cattle, as does the cowheron. The cattle drive away the insects that live in the pasture, which end up becoming easy prey for these birds. The black anu is a frequent inhabitant of the countryside, but it can also be found in the city, living in vacant lots and other areas covered by grass. Very common bird throughout Brazil.
